Shared kitchen with a microwave, toaster, and induction cookers. I felt like a master chef preparing my meals amidst the cozy atmosphere and the aroma of delicious food. It was like being in my own mini culinary show!

    Check-in process a bit slow.

It has excellent, unbeatable setting, not far from transport links as well as a quiet neighbourhood run by a mother.

Thoroughly enjoyed our a nice size and perfect rooms in this place.

Location: the hotel was close to historical center and both the train station and the old part of town. We stopped by Holoholo'ss for coffee and treats, it was just a short stroll away from the property. The room we had included central heating, a microwave oven, and a fridge. It overlooked garden and had a big bed.

My stay at Fish In A River was a pleasant experience. The room was in flawless condition, and the comfortable beds provided a great night's sleep. The hotel offered a choice of western beds or traditional futon beds, catering to different preferences. This flexibility was a nice touch and added to the overall comfort of the stay.

While there were no major drawbacks during my stay, one minor inconvenience was the hotel's location. Fish In A River is not situated in the historical center of Takayama, which may disappoint some travelers seeking a more centrally located accommodation.

The rooms were fantastic and neat, fitted with private bathrooms and included amenities like a microwave oven, refrigerator, and kitchenware. the location was peaceful and convenient, being close to both the train station and the old part of town. There were plenty of good food options within a 10-15 minutes walk from the hostel.

Amazing value for money! The private room was spacious and had a beautiful view of the garden. The beds were super comfy and provided a great night's sleep. The hostel itself was peaceful, clean, and tastefully decorated.

The shared bathrooms and restrooms. Although there were only three rooms, we felt a bit uncomfortable using the shared facilities.

I wanted to visit the Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall, and that's why I chose Fish In A River. I was pleasantly surprised by the complimentary coffee and tea provided for guests. It was a nice perk to have during my stay.

    Light leakage from next room.

The room at Hostel Fish In A River was cozy and inviting, with tatami flooring and comfy Japanese futon bedding. I felt like I was truly experiencing traditional Japanese living. The shared kitchen was a great perk for making quick meals, and the in-room WiFi worked perfectly for staying connected.

Personally, I wasn't a big fan of the shower/tub combination in the bathroom. But hey, that's just me!

The super friendly hosts, Taku-san and his mom, made us feel right at home. They provided us with plenty of tips and recommendations, including a whole list of family-friendly restaurants to try. We were even able to contact Taku-san when we left behind a coat, and he quickly arranged to have it shipped to our hotel in Tokyo. The location of the guest house is great, just an 8-10 minute walk from the center of town and surrounded by bars and restaurants. Takayama itself is a laid-back town with a wonderful atmosphere and serves as a gateway to the beautiful surrounding mountains.

In my wife's opinion, the light above the bathroom mirror is not very powerful.
